Design IPs for Universal TV Encoder

Introduction

SoftJin’s Universal TV Encoder is a Soft Design IP that is used along with the display devices to display the video content for SD and HD display devices. Being a Universal TV Encoder, this IP accepts BT 601/656 or BT 709/1120 stream as input and generates high quality SD and HD video data. As a cost-effective encoder IP, Universal TV Encoder supports generation of SD output which can be given to any devices which support CVBS, S-Video or Composite video. The HD output can generate YPbPr standard data for Analog HD TV output and RGB standard data for Digital HD TV.

SoftJin’s Universal TV Encoder has been proven on FPGA (Altera, Xilinx) and ASIC platforms. It has been extensively tested across various transmission formats along with wide range of SD/HD devices. The key features of the IP include:

  • Supports BT601, BT656 and BT 709/1120 input formats
  • Supports NTSC, PAL, SECAM output standard definition video standards
  • Supports input in both interlaced and non interlaced formats
  • Supports High Definition Analog and Digital output video formats (YPbPr standard data for Analog HD TV and HDMI standard data for digital HD TVs)
  • Supports Composite, S-video, Component video output standards
  • De-interlacing and up-scaling of SD to HD
  • Supports internal Color Bar mode
  • SD output generation at 480i/576i video modes
  • HD output generation at 480p/576p/720p/1080i/1080p video modes
  • Standards ASSPs including video decoder chip, TV encoder chip etc
  • SoC specially developed for the video wall application
  • FPGA with video wall player code

The encoder relies on a robust hardware platform that delivers high quality output. The key hardware components that are present in Universal TV Encoder includes

The SD data is transmitted in BT601/656 stream and is given to NTSC/PAL encoder, which generates the SD output for the SD display devices. There is a SD-to-HD upscaler which takes the SD data and outputs HD data. Motion adaptive De-interlacer block is present in the Universal TV Encoder which converts the interlaced in to de-interlaced data. In addition, SoftJin’s Universal TV Encoder IP is designed to handle the various SD formats like PAL, NTSC and SECAM through which the usability of the device can be extended to all the regions.

SoftJin’s Universal TV Encoder accepts BT-709/1120 stream as input, and generates HD output. HD Encoder generates the Analog output and HDMI generates the Digital output for HD display devices.
